This month I was lucky enough to work with Neil Mullarkey, one of the founders of London’s famous Comedy Store, occasional panellist on QI and all round comedy genius. Neil is rarely on TV (I suspect of his own choice), but quite astonishing live.
Anyhow, the relevance of this is that he’s conjured up a rather amusing alter ego: “L Vaughan Spencer, Management Guru and Gangsta Motivator”. As it says on L-Vaughan’s website “Have you ever been exhorted to ‘live the brand’? Or sent to Dartmoor to bungee jump with your Head of IT – all in the name of team-building? Or made to parade with your workmates around a Holiday Inn car park singing ‘We Are The Champions’?
The world of business is strangely full of bogus motivational speakers (don’t get me wrong, there are some good ones too!) who are all too happy to take large dollops of cash from corporations in exchange for highly dubious (or very common sense) advice.
L-Vaughan pricks the bubble of these people, and anyone running a company will take strange pleasure in seeing everything from “bonding days” to “confidence building workshops” put where they belong. Ironically, Neil is doing a roaring trade in bringing L Vaughan Spencer to corporate events.
So, take ten minutes out and enjoy these classic slices of L Vaughan at his best…
